Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards

You’re having a giraffe!

This one-off exhibition is exclusive to the Wildlife and Safari Travel Show at the Harrogate Convention Centre in October, and the first time the 2019 CWPA finalists will be shown as a collection, in what promises to be a rib-tickling show suitable for all visitors.

We are delighted to showcase a photography exhibition of the 40 finalists from the 2019 Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards at the Wildlife & Safari Travel Show this year. The category winners will be announced in November, with the overall winner being crowned ‘The 2019 Comedy Wildlife Photographer of the Year’ and winning a handmade trophy from the Wonder Workshop in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania and a one-week safari with Alex Walker’s Serian.

For Conservation

The Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards were founded in 2015 by wildlife photographers and conservation enthusiasts Tom Sullam and Paul Joynson-Hicks. This annual competition works alongside the Born Free Foundation to highlight a more serious matter; the importance of conserving our planet’s beautiful wildlife through a positive and upbeat message.

Tom Sullam said: “In just four years, this competition has gone from hilarious to utterly ridiculous humour – all provided to us by these fantastic animals.”

Along with Tom and Paul, the judges include wildlife TV presenter Kate Humble, actor and comedian Hugh Dennis, wildlife photographer Will Burrard-Lucas, co-founder of Amazing Internet Andrew Skirrow, photographer Simon Pollock, wildlife expert and co-founder of Born Free Foundation, Will Travers OBE, Managing Director of Affinity, Ashley Hewson and the Telegraph’s online travel editor Oliver Smith. This year they also welcome three new judges to the team – Bella Lack, Celia Dunlop and Henrik Tanabe.

As always, the competition is supported by a raft of fantastic sponsors and partners; The Born Free Foundation, Affinity photo, Amazing Internet, Think Tank, Alex Walker’s Serian, Spectrum Photo and Olympus Finland.

There are 2 fantastic books accompanying the competition, Comedy Wildlife Photography Awards Vol. 1 & 2 by Paul Joynson-Hicks and Tom Sullan, published by 535 with a brand, new edition – vol 3 due to be published later in the year, featuring as yet unseen images from 2019 competition.
